In this paper, it is to re-apply PDH equipment to study the jitter of SDH/PDH equipment. The manner with equipment theory and practices is applied in it. At first, it introduces mapping structure of SDH and adjustments of the bit rate of the signals. Then in the center of long_distance transmission at Zhengzhou Telecommunication Corporation, when the signal generated in different PDH equipment is embedded in synchronous signal of SDH equipment which is made in the different company, the measurement experiments of Output Jitter, Input Jitter Tolerance, Mapping Jitter and Combined Jitter are done. From the data, it comes to an conclusion that it describes the jitter characteristics of PDH and SDH equipments. Furthermore, the 140Mbit/s signal which is using now,is respectively multiplexed and transmitted in the SDH equipment of Siemens and Lucent company. In the course of it, the adjustments of AU-4 pointer is recorded. At last, as for the jitter measurements, the principle that the 140Mbit/s and 2Mbit/s signals would be applied with in pratice is concluded from the experiments. And so it is to re-apply PDH equipment better.
