In this paper, a number of theoretic algorithms of image sharpening on IR images are studied by analyzing the characteristics of infrared image and taking into account of the effect of real-time processing. Algorithms such as non-uniformity correction, image grads sharpening and Laplacian sharpening are mainly studied and realized. An new algorithm of image sharpening on IR images is presented in this paper. Simulation results are provided, which proved that the enhancement effects are better than those of the original algorithms.The algorithm presented in this paper is realized on hardware system which is based on the FPGA structure. The FPGA is programmed successfully and the real-time performance is guaranteed by the high speed FPGA and simple algorithm.
