The aim of this project is to design and develop a general testing platform to improve the current experimental environment of electrical and electronic majors in universities, and to establish a modern experimental environment.Combined with the technology of virtual instrument and USB, the module of high-speed data acquisition and signal generator is designed to compose a general testing platform in which the virtual oscilloscope, virtual signal source, virtual logic analyzer and virtual digital signal generator are included. A variety of experiments can be carried out on this testing platform, such as filter characteristics of amplitude and frequency, operational amplifier circuits, RLC testing, etc.In this paper, necessity and aim of researching and designing this testing platform are firstly discussed, followed by the introduction of general construction and working principle. Then, the following chapters respectively introduce the theory and design scheme of each software and hardware module which constitutes the whole testing platform. The hardware is composed of three parts: high-speed data acquisition, signal generator and USB communication. Also, the software is made of three parts: microcontroller firmware, USB device driver and top-layer application. The technology of direct digital synthesis is applied to realize signal source with the frequency range from 1Hz~5MHz, and the minimum frequency absolution to 0.2Hz. With construction of the USB controller PDIUSBD12 USB communication module complies to USB protocol 1.1 and bulk transfer mode.
