On The Ethic Foundation Of The News Media

The News Media has double properties. On one hand, it's one kind of public tools, serving the public with news , reflecting the social lives and guiding orients of the social consciousness. On theother hand, it has the function of an enterprise to make its owneconomic profits. In order to properly playing a role in contemporary society, first, the News Media should has its proper ethical ends or telos ,ie., a purpose to defend the public benefits and to promote the moderate progress of society; second, the News Media should embody basic ethical value of journalism which include freedom of press, reporting of true facts and the equality of broadcasting subject; finally, the ethical value of journalism should be preserved in government's Media laws, the work of journalist and the mass's consciousness. Only the News Media has its proper ethical value and keep its ethical value, can the News Media properly realize its social functions in contemporary society.
