Exception Handling In Workflow Management System Design And Realization

With the rapid expansion of Internet and Intranet, some kinds of software systems have been greatly evolved, especially the Workflow Management System, WfMS. The main intension of WfMS is the automation of procedures where documents, information or tasks are passed between participants according to a predefined set of rules to achieve an overall business goal.There have been a lot of productions of WfMS nowadays. But in most of these productions, it is not well handle the workflow exceptions and lower the work efficiency of WfMS. However, with the expansion of enterprise and rapid changes of market requirement, workflows model are more complexity and more anticipant and un-anticipant exceptions appear. They need to make some good methods to handle to all kinds of exceptions in run time. And handling exceptions in workflow is one of the most important techniques that we need in order to improve the flexibility of WFMS.After a study on exception handling in workflow, we propose a systematism method. We also propose a XML description of exceptions in workflow according to WPDL. Moreover, we discuss some difficulty questions in Dynamic Modify. With eHandlingFLOW which support of exception handling, we introduce the system architecture and the design and implementation of Process Design Tool and Enactment Service Subsystem. We expect that our work will do some help in the Exceptions Handling in Workflow Management System on both scientific and utility aspect.
