Being part of the research for intelligent control and optimum dispatching of the elevator traffic system, which is supported in part by the National natural science foundation of china under grant 69874026, this paper summarizes the elevator control system. Meanwhile the origin, the assortment and the development stages of elevator group control system (EGCS) including the modern elevator group control technologies are elaborated.Based on generalizing research achievements on EGCS from both here and abroad, and by making a study of the elevator traffic system in this paper, the author analyzed the elevator traffic system's characteristics, viz. multiple objectives, nonlinearity, uncertainty, imperfection of information, perturbance, etc.EGCS is a control system with multiple objectives that are interrelating with one another and interact on each other. Because the elevator traffic system contains lots of inaccurate factors, it's hard using the analytical mathematical model to describe system performance characteristics. Conventional control theory cannot solve the problem of elevator traffic system completely. Fuzzy control technologies that apply control rules to simulating the inference process of man's brain can diminish the affect on the system by data inaccuracy.By using "the directed graph of variable relationship in elevator traffic system", this paper introduced the origin and the utilization of fuzzy control theory, discussed the relationship between the control variables and correlative constraints of fuzzy group system. Elevator fuzzy group control system's control strategy generation part and hall call assignment part are designed by using the fuzzy control principle, Passenger traffic data is classified into eight modes according to the characteristics of traffic using a fuzzy inference in control strategy generation part. The membership functions used in the hall call assignment part are made by the classified traffic mode and the important degrees of the evaluation criteria. The suitabilities of elevators for a hall call are given by the fuzzy inference, then the optimal elevator dispatching result will be achieved, the elevator having the largest overall suitabilities is selected by the rank of the overall suitability. Rough simulation results are shown better results than conventional methods, it shows that the methods proposed in this paper are of consequence to EGCS in intelligent buildings.
