Broadband Network User Access Authentication Technology And Its Applications,

With the development of network, it is an increasingly important problem that how to make an effective management on access of broadband network users. That means we can give a authentication service to users and equipments' access to local network which has characteristics of simple technology and low cost.Firstly, in this paper, I introduced the characteristics of authentication system for traditional dial-up user (RADIUS protocol) and authentication technology (PPPoE, WEB authentication), which is widely used in broadband network user's access nowadays. Secondly, I made an elaboration on IEEE 802.1x protocol. At last, I gave a case of our dormitory area network which used 802.1x protocol to manage the access and fee of broadband network users and analyzed it in five aspects which were choice of equipment, design of network construction, setup of exchanger, configuration of RADIUS server, design of charge system.In this study, I concluded that the separation between authentication and exchange, which was the characteristic of 802.1 x, was the substantial difference between conventional authentication system and 802.1x. As soon as passing the authentication, all flow of traffic would separate from authentication system. That resolved the bottleneck problem of network effectively.For the virtue of 802.1x protocol, we used it in the local network of our dormitory area and laid a good foundation for subsequent network constrction.
