Multimedia Database Technology Research

The database for multimedia is a whole database-system, which is developed on the software of POWER BUILDER 6.5. (PB6.5) The system has two functions. One is that it can insert, delete, retrieve and update data of picture, audio and video. The other is that it has an easy interface between client and database-system. I use the common way to develop multimedia database. It means I will develop it on a flat roof, which is PB 6.5. Multimedia database has same and different character with the relational database. The same is they have the same management systems, which includes insert, delete, retrieve and update data and can be developed by PB6.5. The different is data, which is not relational in multimedia database. So how to manipulate multi-data is the key and innovate point of multimedia database. To retrieve multi-data, first of all I give multi-data some description by relational data. Second I can retrieve multi-data by using these relational data. So I can use the common way of relational database to retrieve the multi-data, which can be accomplished by using basic function of PB6.5. To delete multi-data, I should delete the whole data item, which also can be accomplished by using the basic function of PB6.5. I need to solve how to insert multi-data and which kind of forms to display in front of client. Inserting multi-data means that we shall insert multi-data as while as we run the multimedia database. So we need OLE to realize the multi-data share. In PB6.5 I use OLE Database Blob to realize inserting multi-data and updating multi-data. So I have developed a whole multimedia database system.As while as the solving the network's bottleneck and the development of hardware, multimedia is an important part both in living of people and in information systems. We need well manage all kinds of multimedia. So we need the multimedia database. Multimedia database solve the restriction of development of multimedia, which is the result of using manpower to manage all kinds of multimedia, and offer a way to realize digital library.
