ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) is an integrated software system, which introduces advanced management idea to manage all resources efficiently for the enterprise. ERP can assist enterprise in many ways, such as making decision, planning, controlling and evaluating. Because the product cost calculation and prediction are the core components of ERP, so they are chosen as the research subject in this paper. Based on the framework of ERP and the characteristic of cooling tower, a practical software for the material and product cost management is developed; they are the subsystems of an ERP software system which fit for the cooling tower products.This dissertation consists of six chapters. The first chapter is about the brief introduction of the development of ERP, and the advances in the fields of product cost calculation and prediction algorithm, also about that of BOM (Bill of Material)which is used in the product cost calculation. An improved BOM traversal algorithm and the corresponding valid check method of BOM is proposed in chapter 2. The method of product cost calculation is discussed in chapter 3. Based on the cost roll-up method, macro cost calculation method is proposed for the cooling tower. In chapter 4,the paper attempts to use rough set theory and Artificial Neural Network in the prediction of the material cost of the cooling tower. In the fifth chapter, a practical software for the material and cost management is developed on the base of improved traversal algorithm of BOM and macros cost calculation method.
