With the rise of multimedia and network technologies, multimedia has become an indispensable feature on the Internet. Animation, voice and video clips become more and more popular on the Internet. Multimedia networking products like Internet telephony, Internet TV, video conferencing, remote education have appeared on the market from laboratorial purpose.Multimedia stream, such as video, audio stream on Internet have three main characteristics: First, need of higher bandwidth; Second, a higher demand on real-time; Third, usually bursting. Contrary to the characteristic of multimedia data, in real life, the current networks also have following three characteristics: limited bandwidth, unpredictable delay, packet lost unavoidable. How to solve these conflicts is a challenge task.My thesis does the following works from the view of audio data transferred on Internet:1. An analysis on the parallel algorithm of audio encoding and decoding.2. An overall analysis of the current media stream transfer protocols including RTP/RTCP, RSVP.3. A research on the key technology of RTF including Multicast support, packet lost recovery, delay, jitter and congestion control.4. A research on the way of how RTCP produces a feedback on QoS and the present way to make assurance on QoS, the main two way is RSVP and DiffServ.5. Implementation of an RTP/RTCP lib WIN32RTP under windows which can be used in IP video phone according to RFC 1889.6. Implementation of a simple IP phone MultiPhone test system based on the Win32Rtp lib and an Internet simulation to check QoS discussed in this article.
