With the coming of the Post-PC-Era, which pervasive computing is a key feature, more and more products today have been embedded with computers. All of these products make the collection, transmission and management of information become much more diversification. These new generation embedded applications not only have the traditional embedded system's characteristics of high specialization, limited resources, compact combination of software & hardware, multi-task, but also have the new characteristics, such as hardware integration(SOC), interface diversification and application intellectualization, which give the new challenge to the traditional real-time embedded computing. To satisfy the requirements of new application, the techniques of embedded system have been developed quickly. This paper focuses on two of those newly developed techniques: component and scheduler. Firstly, we introduce the concept of embedded system and its trend, and then we describe the characteristic of embedded system eCos (Embedded Configurable Operation System). Secondly paper analyses the component techniques of eCos in detail, and present the definition, granularity and configurability of the eCos component. Finally, we analyses the implement of the eCos scheduler and point out its defects. On the base of dedicated analysis, we propose a mechanism to dynamically estimate the proportion and period needed by a particular job based on observations of its CPU utilizing rate and schedule it accordingly.
