Computer aided process planning(CAPP) means the computer aided design and the document formation for the mechanical part manufacturing process. The application of this method in the process design can make the problems such as heavy work for filling the form, lower efficiency, lower reliability and the correct data information for share solved. CAPP is the key link of CMK CAM and its integrate and one of the technical bases of CIMS.Although some progress has been made and some CAPP system has been developed after many years research, there still exist many problem and faults in the CAPP technology, which makes it few application in practice. The practicality which is affected by the community, adaptive, reliability, and its harmonic and optimize is the key point which limits the application of CAPP.Based on the principle of advance, adaptive, reliability, high efficiency and flexibility, the general configuration strategy and the key technology has been deeply analyzed and optimized with the systematic and community in general and adaptive and contraposition in detail. The harmonic in both respects has been realized technically and the contradiction between adaptive and community solved. With the synthetic developing tool based on the database, the CAPP system called synthetic development CAPP (SD-CAPP) which is of the properties of synthetic, modular redeveloped and integrated has been developed. It is featured at the synthetic development strategy, the feature describing and modeling of part information, the object-oriented template process decision, the opening database structure, the automatic creating and outputting of process document. So some breakthrough has been made in the practicability and the universality of the system with above advanced technology.The research mainly include the establish of the general structure of the SD-CAPP system, the structure of the opening database and its configuration, the setup of the basic database, information module database, the gear process template library, process rule library and the document library. Take the gear as an example, we should analyze the expression of its information feature and the information input method, setup the information module of the gear firstly, then study the process strategy principle and its realization, summarize the gear process, design the gear process template, propose the automatically generation rule of the gear process, finally decide the form of the process document and output method..With the opening structure, the library for basic data, standard process, process rule and process template are of the function of second development, which makes the system can be continuously improved during application by the user. The "self studying " of the system in operation makes it continuously self-perfecting and more adaptive, then become a user's system with the property of community, adaptive and easy use.The establishment of the information model starts from the design of the interface of information input. Based on the concept of "layer and type ", it is designed by layer. The types lies in the layers and then the sub-layers lies in the types. Based on the feature type of the parts information, all of the part information is input systematically and finally the information model matched to the process template is created.A kind of CAPP system process route decision method named the objective-oriented template process decision method has been proposed based on the objective-oriented technology and typical part process. That is, for the objective task of different layer, the expression of the typical part information feature is solved by means of the feature code technology which is the combination of the GT and feature technology. The synthetic strategy of the typical part process is realized by means of the combination of variant and generative process strategy.
