After the advent of this new century, an unprecedented flourishing sale situation of books on tourism and maps occurs with the booming development of China's tourism industry. All kinds of publishing companies tempted by this market begin to invest to the development of such products as books on tourism and maps, which makes the competition in this market very drastic. Diversified demands come from the consumers with so many alternative books in the market. And the consumption behavior becomes more and more rational. So, what should the executives of publishing companies do in face of such a market filled with fierce competition? This is a difficult problem puzzling the management a lot.In my point of view, under the condition that the success of a company depends on the acceptance of the readers (customers), the key of success lies in the interaction between the company and the readers rather the advantage over the direct competitors. So, the company should establish the "readers-focused" strategy and create value for the readers with the tool of value analysis. Only by such a way can a company gain unique advantage and improve the competitiveness.This thesis based on the theory of value chain, focuses on the analysis of the value chain of China's map books presses and how to foster and develop the competitive advantage of these companies.This thesis consists of fours chapters. Chapter one is preface describe the background, the research method and the significance of this thesis. Chapter two is diagnoses of China's current map press focusing on two domestic presses. Chapter three is the value chain analysis of these presses. Chapter four focuses on the basic way of gaining competitive advantage.
