Random Contention Arbitration

The arbiters, which use the rule of fixed arbitrations, do not work well in some system in which the usages of resource are often changed. In the paper, an arbiter is designed by the method of randomly competitive arbitrating, it can solve the problem of the fairness of the competitions which may be fair or unfair and the adjusting of competitive probability. Firstly the paper introduces the method of randomly competitive arbitrating, and then uses the method of simulation and analytics and signal flow graph and Markov chain to analyze the competitive probability and length of arbitrations respectively. The paper also makes a comparison between the method of randomly competitive arbitrating and the method of fixed priority level arbitrating.At last, an arbiter is realized by a program and CPLD/FPGA. Another method, which uses the idea of method of randomly competitive arbitrating, is also given in the paper.
