Construction Project Integrated Information Classification System Study

Information play an important role in management of an construction project or of the whole construction industry. Information technology has gain a fast and great improvement during the past few years and has been used widely in construction industry all over the world. But computer cannot deal with the information or data without standard organization, and the standard organization of information is the basis for the IT to be applied in construction domain.In this study, some basic theory, general concepts and methods for classification are introduced. Based on them, the definition of Construction Information Classification System and some relevant concepts such as construction industry, architectural works and civil works are given. ISO/DIS 12006-2, providing a framework for classification of construction information, are introduced as the basis for this study.Some conventional and modem CICS in North America and Europe such as Masterformat, UNIFORMAT, OCCS, Ci/SfB, EPIC and UNICLASS are introduced and compared, and the trends of CICS are analysed.There are some conventional classification systems in our country, each serving for some specific area in construction management. Introduction and comparison are been made on them to study the situation of native CICSs and some conclusions are drawn.It is of great importance to establish an modern new CICS for our construction industry. The need for a new CICS is analysed and some proposal for establishment of our CICS are given in Chapter 5.
