In this paper, a manufacturing management information system based on Internet for small- and medium-scale mold enterprise was studied and relative software has been developed.With the continuous progress of science and technology and the development of economy, the competition focusing on new product are becoming more and more fierce in the market in the 21 st century. How to shorten design and manufacturing time, and to make a quick response to the market, therefore, is more important than ever. So, studying the manufacturing management information system based on Internet, which can share and exchange useful information without any space and time restriction, improves the efficiency of management, and transforms and promotes the traditional manufacture, has become a trend.The mold manufacture and application, which is very important for many fields of the backbone industries, indicates the national industrial level. The feature of mold manufacture is long period, varied products and small batch, thus, mold enterprises should and must adopt a modem information management mode to boost their production efficiency.In our country, mold industry is typical small-enterprise in large-industry, which is decided by the feature of the mold manufacture. Thus, in this paper, the system, which aimed at small- and medium-scale mold enterprise, was established.Firstly, considering the stability, the facility and the wide applicability, the system established the applied platform and set up the Internet environment.In this chapter, a tri-layer Browser/Serve data-accessing pattern was adopted, which is advantage of "thin" client, maintainable system and application extended easily. Furthermore it adapts to run on Internet and Intranet.After that, the system established the applied platform based on Windows 2000, IIS 5.0 and SQL Server 2000, and set up the Internet environment with the development tool such as ASP, JavaScript, Java Applet, etc.Secondly, according to the specific conditions of the mold enterprise, facing the whole business region, the management information system established the function model and information model for the mold enterprise. In order to integrate the function and information of the enterprise efficiently, a science method based on information engineering should be used. In this chapter, strategy and technique of establishing the enterprise model has been discussed, and a full mold enterprise model was presented via IDEFO method and IDEFlx method respectively.In order to build the function model for the mold enterprise, according to the IDEFOmethod, functions of the mold enterprise were divided from top to bottom, and the function trees such as the management function tree, the technology function tree and the manufacturing function tree were established respectively. Based on those trees, the top-layer IDEFO function graph, O-layer IDEFO function graph, etc. were set up, In order to build the information model, following processes had been done:1. Entity definingIn this step, the input/output information of the IDEFO function model was summed up and analyzed, then basic information entities were gave;2. Relationship definingAccording to the IDEFlx method, on the basis of building a relationship matrix of basic information entities, seven information entities were validated, including customer entity, member entity, project entity, mold entity, assignment entity, member of assignment entity, and file entity. And then, relationships between these information entities were discussed;3. Key definingThe target of this step was to reform relationships between entities, and to define the primary key and foreign key for every entity;4. Property definingIn this step, according to the IDEFlx method, non-key properties of each entity were defined and marked.By those four processes, the information entities set and the information function view of the mold enterprise were discussed, and the information model for the mold enterprise was...
