This paper presents the theory limit on antennas' gain and bandwidth, as well as how to improve the bandwidth and miniaturize them, especially micro-strip antenna is elaborated.Normal micro-strip antenna is widely used for its low profit weight and volume, but it's band-width is a little poor. In this paper, an micro-strip antenna based on novel electromagnetic(photon) structure is designed , numerical experiments show that such kind of structure can decrease the surface-wave caused by thick substrate , thus the bandwidth and gain of antenna are improved evidently. Electromagnetic(photon) structure is drawing more and more attention and development of theories in this field will benefit a lot for the enhancement of antenna performance.FDTD algorithm is also addressed in this paper and is applied in a programme. After a micro-strip antenna is designed and implemented, its test result is compared with result from commercial software and the program based on FDTD, it shows that FDTD is a highly efficient technique for numerical application in electromagnetics.
