Coordinate Measuring Data Processing And System Development. Reverse Engineering

Reverse engineering is an advanced design technology used popularly in mechanical engineering. 3D measurement is a basic process, and data processing is one of the most important processes in reverse engineering, which affect the quality of product. This paper discusses several factors in data processing, such as data transform, data reposition, symmetrical feature rebuilding. With the analysis on the currently used methods, new techniques are put forwarded to improve the efficiency and quality for reverse engineering.In data processing, the processing system is applicable for all kinds of CMM and CAD/CAM systems, direct the store of all files, and provide different color numbers and levels of the IGES files, while the program used before can't do.The processing system can transform the datum measured in different coordinate systems into one coordinate system based on the theory that three datum points construct an orthogonal coordinate system. There is no distortion in product because of the rigid transform. The system will finish the transform automatically by searching and build the path for reposition.With distinguishing the symmetrical feature of product, the workload of measure and sculpt will be diminished, and the quality of product will be guaranteed. In this paper, the rebuilding process is finished if the x-z plane is the symmetrical plane of the product after rotating and moving the product in.3D.The process is composed of manual rebuilding in whole, in parts, and automatic rebuilding.Finally, after an interactive processing system is developed based on VC++ on windows, it is applied for the metrical datum of all kinds of plastic products of motorcycle. The result makes sure that the new system is efficient in data formatting, data assembling and symmetrical feature rebuilding. Also the processing quality is guaranteed.
