Reverse engineering is an important supporting technology of digesting advanced technology, shortening time of product redesign and manufacturing,and is one of core technology of advanced manufacturing technology.Preprocessing of "points cloud" data and surface reconstruction are the critical technology of reverse engineering and are the premises of building product CAD model.This paper introduces the application fields of reverse engineering , discusses the techniques of coordinate data acquisition and the features and the used scopes of all kinds of measure methods, elaborates the principal techniques of surface reconstruction of reverse engineering,analyses the problems of surface reconstruction., addresses a kind of algorithm of the scattered "points cloud" preprocessing and a method of employing CAD modeling software to finish surface modeling,develops a cloud data optimum processing programme.The principal research work and conclusions are listed as follows:1. Studying on sorting the scattered "points cloud" data, and building the topological relation of the scattered data by sorting.2. Studying on simplification algorithms of "points cloud" data, putting forward three kinds of simplification algorithms of "points cloud" data according to the point number of data set after simplification and the density of data set and the uniformation of curvature change at control point by B spline curve interporlation.3. Developping cloud data optimum processing modula by Visual C++, which provides good information for accurate modeling and high modeling efficiency.4. Realizing the integration cloud data optimum processing modula with UG modeling software by second development language-UG/Open API.5. Finishing surface reconstruction and building solid modeling by UG modeling software after the "points cloud" data are processed, and exporting in STL file format to import rapid prototyping.6. Researching the application of reverse engineering by automobile engine supercharger impeller,and achieving the better application effect.
