Along with the fast development of information technology and the high inflation of the network information, The speed of the network equipments development is rather less than the speed of information growth. So the network transmite process appears great quantities congestion. How to raise the utilization of the network resources and the whole capabilities of the network is the problem that must urgently resolve now.The way of the transmitted data by traditional router is CPU checking the router table step by step. Its transmit frequency can not suffice demand of the current Internet development. The speed of ATM Switch is rather fast than the Router, and then it becomes the backbone equipment in data communication. However, how to make the IP data of clients transmit in ATM is also a difficulty issue. The combination of ATM and IP technology produce MPLS technology. MPLS technology inherits the flexible and extensible of IP technology, and transmits data using layer2 switch technology. This thesis deeply researches the MPLS technology, expatiates its theory principles, analyzes its system framework, implements it in MSTP platform, and specifies the realization mechanism of the MPLS traffic engineering modules. Firstly, this thesis introduces development of digital network technology, analyzes and compares STM, IP, and ATM. Then it specifies the kernel concept of MPLS, explains MPLS protocol model, transmit principle and double plane structure. Secondly, based on the introduction of IGP, wrap model, and integration model, this thesis introduces the concept and advantages of MPLS traffic engineering. At last, it is the application department which implements MPLS technology in MPLS data board of MSTP platform. It introduces the system highly hierarchy structure and descriptions the modules in traffic engineering model.
