MPLS TE is the state-of-the-art technology for traffic engineering inthe Internet backbone, which effectively mitigates congestion andguarantees QoS. However, existing network management approaches arenot able to monitor MPLS TE tunnels dynamically in real time. This lackof visibility brings significant difficulty to network operations and trafficengineering implementations.To address this problem, this paper studied the real-time monitoringtechnique for MPLS TE tunnel.Based on the Comprehensive analysis ofMPLS network management and IP network dynamic management, thispaper designed and implemented a MPLS TE tunnel real-time monitoringsystem based on MTRM(MPLS TE Tunnels Real-time Monitoring).Contributions and work are as following:1. A real-time monitoring approach for MPLS TE tunnels, MTRMwas proposed in this paper: A probe was placed in the network to collectOSPF-TE signaling messages. Based on the collected information, aMPLS network model was built and tunnel paths were dynamicallycomputed using the Tunnel Paths Real-time Monitoring Algorithm. The MPLS TE tunnel paths could thus be monitored in real time.2. An OSPF-TE signaling passive collection method wasproposed.This method put a prob which passively collect signaling to anautonomous System, and collected the OSPF signaling which flooded inthe MPLS devices.Then, the method created the traffic engeeringdatabase,to build the MPLS network model.3. The CSPF algorithm was improved. Due to different path-optionsa tunnel used, we designed three tunnel estimation algorithmsrespectively.4. Based on MTRM, this paper implemented a MPLS TE tunnelreal-time monitoring system.This system consisted of database module,OSPF-TE signaling collection module, tunnel path estimation module anduser interface module.To verify the accuracy and real-time performance of MTRM,Simulation experiments were carried out on MPLS networks of differentscale. The results show that this approach can monitor the changes ofMPLS TE tunnels within5minutes, with over90%precision. Thisreal-time monitoring approach can greatly reduce the difficulties ofMPLS network management and TE implementation, and it has a wideapplication prospect.
