The paper mainly studies the process of audience segmentation and media segmentation after the foundation of the People Republic Of China.According to changes of audience and mass media,journalistic development of new China is divided into three periods:mass communication,communication of audience segmentstion and individualized communication.The social calegories theory and individual differences theory are used to explain the transition of the three periods.moreover,sociology is applied to study the causes of audience segmentstion and from the social,economic and technical angles, the paper analyzes possibility and necessity of media segmentation.It breaks through the convention of dividing the journalistic development of new China in according with historic events and defines the different periods on the basis of the degree of audience segmentation and media segmentation,which is conducive to research the changes of the audience and the media from angle of the communication.
