The paper is one part of the project of a design tool about the Expert System of Condition Monitoring and Fault Diagnosis for Rotating Machinery. According to the researching and analysing of the mechanism and character of the typical faults for Rotating Machinery and expert system technology, clarify the main content and the total frame of the Expert System of Condition Monitoring and Fault Diagnosis for Rotating Machinery, and research the constructing way of the KnowledgeBase(KB). KnowledgeBase Management System(KBMS) and the Reasoning Machine of Fault Diagnosis(RMFD) mainly. Based on comparing these way. put forward the storing way of rameuleand the reasoning measure of forward and back . At last. adapting the thinking of software engineering, develop a KB. KBMS and RMFD with VB?6.O in Windows98. KB include diagnosis knowledge. background knowledge. histroy of faults and process knowledge. Diagnosis knowledge have three modules which are rule-measure. symptom-base. dictionary. Rule-measure includes iagnostic rules editing?module and easure of fault module; Symptom-base includes he value of symptom editing module and he character of symptom editing module; Dictionary includes ictionary of faults editing module. raph editing module. uestion editing module and nswer editing module. Reasoning Machine can not only reason from the symptoms which is got by the module of getting symptom automatically, but also can let the field-experts and users answer some questions through dialog during the process of reasoning, which can make up for the short of the module of getting symptom and pick-up symptom further. and then go on diagnosing detailedly . KBM provides users the way to manage and develop KB. This KB can be taken as a tool of designing a KBMS. If we draw out the faults. symptoms and rules etc.. we can design KBMS of different type of device. Using VB++6.O. we can get the source program and can modify it and extend it. Using VB++6.O. we can resolve the problem that other tools of devolping KB have no the ability of analysing graph. At last. this paper gives applying examples to test the KBMS and the ReasoningMachine.
