This paper researched the common faults and feature extraction methods of rotating machinery, then analysised the advantages and disadvantages of a variety of feature extraction method. Paper focus on order analysis which used in non-stationary signal of the start-cease phase of rotating machinery, then elaborate the prominent efferc in overcoming the "frequency smear" of order analysis both in theoretical and practical application.This paper research the general development process of rotating machinery fault diagnosis system based on Lab VIEW virtual instrument platform.Then developed a functional fault diagnosis syster focus on synchronized gear box for high speed wire rod. System consists of hardware module for signal conditioning, resonance demodulation and data collection, software module implementing the the storage, analysis and display of the rotation signal. Based on the rotating theory for the vibration mechanism, with rotating machinery fault diagnosis technology, signal analysis module provide time-domain analysis of dimensionless parameters, spectral analysis, cepstrum analysis, envelope analysis and order analysis to determine equipment operation and predict the initial failure.The system adopt signal conditioning module with resonance demodulation function as hardware, and integrated a variety analysis mothod in software, detected abnormal state of the machanical vibration signals together, and inproved the accuracy of fault diagnosis。Large gearbox and bearing can be accurately detected in the initial failure, and clearly show features of early failure of parts, and reveals the fault occurrence and development correctly and effectively.This system has been successfully applied to the jaw of steel rod mill production line, various functions have been tested and successfully detected the original gear box failure. The successful application of the results provide the foundation for rationally plan for the enterprise equipment maintenance programs and improve equipment operation management level, and ultimately the goal of predictive maintenance equipment.
