The Development Of A New Generation Of Lightning Location Equipment

Combined with the newly developed Lightning Location System, the paper gives a thorough investigation on radio direction detecting technology, low frequency electric wave and lightning pulse propagation theory, GPS time synchronization theory, ect. First, the paper studies the physical process of lightning, and makes comparison among the existing lightning location systems. It also puts forward the ideas of an advanced lightning location system to further improve the sub-station distance error, and introduces the research emphasis of the paper. Secondly, it provides the technological requirement and the whole device frame. The process of development is illustrated by software, hardware, picking up of distance information, design of sub-system, data collection circuit and data terminal. In the paper, the collecting of distance information with DSP is introduced in detail and the procedure of data collection is provided. The result of experiment indicates: the designed prototype comes to the requirement of technical features.
