Color Management has been an important issue on DTP for ages. With the development andmaturity of DTP, Color Management has been developed to the direction of system-level andstandardizaion. International Color Consortium (ICC) which was formed in l993 by some famouscorporaions accelerates this trend.ICC-based CMS(Color Management System) is a generic, device-independent CMS, whichis realized on system-level and depended on device profiles.Since scanner is an important input device, it is a significant and absolutely necessary workto investigate its characteristic and build its device profile that is accorded with ICC ProfileFormat Specification.On the basis of investigating ICC Profile Format Specification and the characteriStic of inputdevice, the thesis ascertains algorithms of the two kinds of input profile models (Three-Component Matrix-based Model and N-Component LUT-Based Model), and according to thesea1gorithms builds the input device profiles. The thesis also analyses many kinds of profiles createdby various platforms carefully and accurately We design the software with Microsoft Visual C++6.0 programming language on Windows 98 operating system. One is Profile Inspector used toanalyse profiles and the other is ProfileMaker used to build profiles. ProfileMaker aIso has someabilities on image processing.The investigative resuItS will be of great value to peopIe in building other device profiles,and the software is useable on DTP system.
