As color information is applied in relative fields more and more widely, people raise a higher request for the quality of color reproduction. The Inadequacy of traditional printing on the reproduction of some special images makes spot-color printing emerges as the times require. Printing color separation technology can be achieved by using ICC profile, so the precision of spot-color profile has a direct impact on the quality of color reproduction.In view of the limitation of the present spot-color management, this paper focuses on the core technologies of building spot-color profile. Firstly, to slove the problem that the spot-color characteristic is nonuniform in device independent color space, a new calibration method based on the highly precise prediction model is proposed through the research on color prediction models. Experiments show that the proposed algorithm can get an equivalent precision with much less measure samples. Then since the special shape of the spot-color gamut, a gamut mapping algorithm for spot-color printing is presented. By using the guidance of a divide and conquer scheme of lightness, hue and saturation, this method has obvious advantage over ones, especially in color continuity and image visual result. Finally, through the analysis of building profile and GOP, the spot-color ICC profile is created on the basis of the theoretic research. Experiment results show that the profile can be applied to spot-color printing and meet practical application.
