Content:In recent years, the application of big data has been increasingly widespread in different countries in the world. As big data has been applied in the various industries and fields, enormous return has been yielded. Also, the importance of big data has been generally approved by all sectors of the society. How should the publishing industry, an important industry in cultural development in recent years, deal with the various challenges in the big data era, and grasp the opportunities to facilitate further development is a question that needs to be seriously considered for now. This paper is focused on the analysis of the influence and application of big data on the publishing industry. By means of case study, the impact of big data on the publishing industry is discussed. On this basis, the overall research on the operating strategies of the publishing industry is formed. Also, a relatively complete direction that can clearly guide the operation and innovation of the publishing industry in the "big data" era is organized. Certain advantageous explorations have also been proceeded in its development in this era.As to the whole world, "big data" is a quite fresh topic. No fixed or integral development mode has been formed in any industries, including the publishing industry. Hence, the great amount of research data and frontier trends need to be grasped first in this paper, so that the main characteristics of the big data era can be analyzed. Also, the progress in the development of the big data era can be grasped, and the generation and evolution of big data can be briefly organized. On this basis, the profound influence of the arrival of the big data era on the society and economy in all the aspects is studied. Furthermore, the changes it has brought to the publishing industry are analyzed, and the importance, feasibility and prospect of the innovative development of the publishing industry in the big data era are also elaborated. In addition, the policies, market environment, external opportunities and competition, internal advantages and disadvantages confronting the publishing industry in the big data era are concisely analyzed. A prospective research is also conducted on the possible questions the publishing industry might encounter in the future development. This can lay a certain foundation for the development and exploration of the publishing industry.
