In 2013, Hunan satellite TV (HNTV) launched an outdoor parents show of entertainment stars--"Dad, where are we going?", which opened the domestic market of parent-child programs. Since the broadcast, the audience rating and public praise grew rapidly, five star dads and their children also became a focus of attention of the national community. At the same time, love of father and parenting had been the hot social topic. It has always been the China’s traditional family pattern that "the man goes out to work while the woman looks after the house", where the woman plays a more significant role in raising a child. However, the program "Dad, where are we going?" has proposed a new insight for love of father, which is no longer unreachable. Through such program, men realize that women as mothers are not easy in daily life. There is also some social thinking on the role of the mother. Love is one of the most attractive topics of such parents shows. When there is full of praises about the father love, what about the mother love? Would the manifestation of father love indirectly lead to the shrinking of mother love into an underemphasized status? As in the program "Dad, where are we going?", the five fathers set up the images of not only good fathers, but also successful men. Mothers, or rather females, existing just like the shadow of husbands and children are more or less neglected herein. The high audience rating brings fame and fortune to males, while the biggest harvest of females is having such a good husband and a lovely child. Therefore, from the perspective of gender, is the gender consciousness conveyed by these types of shows a challenge to the traditional family roles, to achieve the balance of family parent-child education status? As for females, what is the meaning of such programs? How do such programs affect the women’s life? Based upon the considerations of the above questions, this thesis analyses the program "Dad, where are we going?" from the perspective of gender. The thesis consists of five parts:The first part:introduction. This section mainly discusses the cause of present study, study issues, research status, the study object and methodology, and elaborates related theories and the practice background of present study. The second part:overview of parent-child program. It discusses the parents shows on the whole, which mainly includes four aspects:concepts, development, classification, and gender analysis of parents shows. Based upon the analysis of these aspects, the study of the typical parents show-- "Dad, where are we going?" is introduced for the following analysis. The third part:gender analysis of "Dad, where are we going?". The study of this part is focused on "Dad, where are we going?", and discussed from three aspects:building of the myths of father loves, inflexible impression, and narrative structure of binary opposition. When analyzing "Dad, where are we going?", the emphasis is put upon how this program describes the principal status of men in the society, expands the power of males, and intensifies binary opposition between men and women. The fourth part:gender analysis of audiences. It analysis "Dad, where are we going?" employing gender theories from the perspective of audience. It points out three types of interpretation methods for female audience. While the female audience is empowered, the induced inflexible impression subtly guides the mate choice and identification of gender role of female audience. This control strategy of the mediums has promoted the understanding and interpretation of the women themselves, and continued to develop in the direction of the mainstream ideology. Therefore, the identification of the gender role of women themselves is in accord with the standard of the patriarchal, and consequently aggravates the binary opposition of the sexes. The last part is the sublimation of present research. This part makes an introspection of the development of parents shows, and further emphasizes the influences of parents shows on social labor division of gender roles and the aggravation of binary opposition between the male and female.
