Nowadays some libraries still adopt the manual way in their circulation management. With the increasing varieties of books, the growing number of readers and the rising needs for rapid circulation, the problems with manual work have become obvious, such as waste of labor and time, as well as more mistakes. The situation lags far behind the development of information era. This paper aims at offering some help in changing the backward situation.To be more specific, in view of the existing problems in manual work and the results of research on the reader needs, as well as the study results done at home and abroad, this paper analyzes the previous circulation management processes, such as book borrowing and returning, reader managing, and book managing, makes modifications to the original processes based on the actual needs, and provides the new business process diagram with a brief description. The paper also interprets the roles of system, offering the data flow chart and digital dictionary, explaining the system functions, providing the function structure diagram, further clarifying the blocking functions. The paper gives the E-R map and explains it after the relation analysis of automated circulation management. In the end, the paper reveals the relationships between the information tables by establishing a database table.By using a structured approach, this paper presents a management system suitable for circulation automation management in Chinese library, thus simplifying the book borrowing and returning, reader managing and book managing, facilitating online book searching, making inquiries and online renewals for readers. In this way, much labor can be saved andmany mistakes can be avoided. And the reader service quality will be greatly improved by changing the low efficiency of manual operations.
