In the trend of globalization, the rapid development of technology is leading another evolution to television media. News is the foundation of a television station and as a significant part of worldwide communication, global news is drawing more and more attention. As a part of China, Taiwan shares the same origin with the mainland in their culture and history. However, the60years of government by Netherland and Japan has laid profound influence upon aspects of Taiwan society, which leads to lots of differences in the form of social media. As a consequence, this research selects CCTV News and PTS News as objects, and carries out studies by comparing the global news reported by both television station in the period of from April24th to May24th2014. This research aims at providing an objective and rational comparison between the two in order to unveil their differences in the sources, numbers, regions, contents, attitude, and presenters of the news when reporting global news. The object is to improve the reporting of global news in China and promote the mutual understanding of television media on both coast, which will accelerate the progress of unification. After thorough study of the materials and deep analysis based on the comparisons, the following conclusion are drawn:1. The reports of global news by the television media on both coasts are prone to depend on foreign media. Comparatively, the situation in CCTV is less obvious due to the establishment of journalist stations overseas.2. There is no significant difference in the number of global news reported by the two stations.3. The region of the news reported by the two stations differs a lot:CCTV is more likely to report news in third world countries while PTS in United States.4. The perspective of the reports from CCTV are more official, whereas that of PTS are close to civilians.5. The attitude of television media on global news from both coasts are similar, most news reported are negative.6. The presenters of the global news diverse in their style among different sort of television media on both coasts.On. the basis of the above conclusions, the author advocates that television media on both coasts reduce their dependence on foreign media and balance more when selecting the region of news, contents, and attitude.
