By analyzing the contents of Mainland China news reports in the two newspapers of Taiwan News and China Times, this thesis aims to discuss how Taiwan newspapers have constructed the Mainland China image and what the image they have constructed is like. The following is what have been discovered in the research: From the aspect of content features, many topics are covered in Mainland China news reports in Taiwan's newspapers, with political and economic issues being the focus. From the aspect of news natures, most of them are neutral news, but the amount of the negative reports is larger than the positive ones. From the aspect of news sources, the speak power is held by those leading brains in political, economic and cultural fields. From the aspect of media sources, most of the reports are gathered by journalists themselves, who also extract manuscripts from Mainland China media. From the aspect of the regions related with the reports, they are not in a balanced distribution, central cities and coastal developed regions are much more covered. From the aspect of report types, messages predominates in the all the reports, while the styles are varied and photo news are put much stress. From the aspect of newspaper layout, expressions are rich in which ideological color is strong. To conclude, the Mainland China image constructed by Taiwan newspapers is a product of the resultant force of all social reality control powers of Taiwan.
