Research On Community News Of Public Information Platform

With the continuous reform of urban construction in China, community is gradually playing a more important role in society, accompanying with the growing information demands from community residents. Community news highlights on community and community residents are the target readers. It spreads news to every single cell and nerve terminal of the city, which fulfills information needs of community residents on one hand, and enhances the connection between traditional media and the readers on the other hand. Furthermore, traditional media is facing the competition from the new media. Community news has brought in both opportunities and challenges to traditional news. In recent years, traditional media are all making attempts in community news, including opening new section for community news, working on news that are closely related to people’s daily life. To some extent, such effort has filled the blank space of community news and realized news communitilization. However, under the fact that traditional news media, such as city news and evening papers, have their agreed layout and disparate positioning, there are still issues need to be resolved for community news. Among all, the most prominent problem is the sharp contradiction between limited space for community news and readers’demands to it.The advent of Wechat conforms to the trend of wide application of handset mass media. Wechat public platform has built multiple accurate communication modes, such as word, image, audio and video, featured by promptness, high interactivity, cost low and high privacy. This dissertation attempts to discuss the possibilities for Wechat public platform to perform as a development breakthrough for traditional media’s community news and Wechat public platform’s constructing and reforming roles in community communication, then analyzing its meaning in community construction. The research methods are namely analyzing the features and functions of Wechat public platform and features and other attributes of community news; interviewing journalists and departments managers from community media departments within traditional media; and taking existing traditional media community public platform as examples to analyze Wechat public platform’s constructive role on aspects of news source, community news topic selection as well as presenting modes.
