Ka-band (26.5GHz-40GHz) is a major operating frequency of satellite communications, its features include available wide bandwidth, large information capacity, small equipment size, anti-interference and the strong concealment, can satisfy the application requirements of high-speed, broadband and small terminals. As Ka-band communication equipment is popular in areas such as aerospace, aviation, solos, airborne radar, the requirement for system miniaturization come to be imminent, the study of miniaturization is also of great significance.The receiver described in this paper used a structure which is a combination of super-heterodyne and image rejection method, in order to meet the target requirements of the system, the third-order intercept modulation products, noise figure, and the total gain were calculated in the software of SYSCAL. The system includes four modules, which were front-end of the receiver, frequency synthesizer, IF channel and the power module. MCM technology was used in this front-end to realize miniaturization. Image frequency suppression was realized by the use of image rejection mixer and quadrature coupler. Smaller PLL circuit and passive filter structure was adopted to reduce the volume of the frequency synthesizer module, without degeneration of the phase noise, frequency changing was realized by microcontroller technology. MMIC chips were used in the design of the IF Channel module. Connection between different modules was realized by insulators which were placed in the metal wall, as a result space utilization of the structure was improved.In order to ensure the phase noise of the output signal, ADIsimPLL phase noise simulation software from AD company was used to calculate the phase noise of the phase locked loop.Anymore using the computer-aided design software of ADS, DXP and AUTOCAD, to do circuit simulation and layout drawing, greatly reduces the design cycle of circuit.Within the scope of the design spectrum, the miniaturization of Ka-band receiver obtains the very good hardware implementation. The measured result presents that within the image rejection is greater than -25.3 dBc, third-order intermodulation is better than - 35 dBc and the AGC dynamic range is about 50dB.
