In this thesis, research on the miniature low phase-noise mm-wave phase-locked frequency synthesizer is presented, and the circuit design, assembling and testing are also given. First, with the phase noise model of phase locked loop (PLL), the relation of the output signal phase noise with the loop configurations and the noise characteristics of all building blocks is analyzed. Next, with the requirements of miniaturization and low phase noise characteristics, the scheme of PLL with mixer + quadrupler is confirmed after the analyzing and comparing of several configurations of mm-wave frequency synthesizer, then the specifications distribution, scheme design and specifications verification are processed. Final, the mm-wave frequency synthesizer is designed, assembled and tested. The measured results show that, the mm-wave frequency synthesizer can output signal at the frequency range of 34.5~35.5GHz with step of 10MHz, and the phase noise performances in the above frequency range are better than –82.7dBc/Hz@1kHz and –83.8dBc/Hz@10kHz. The frequency synthesizer has the volume of 90×62×25mm3 and the maximum power consumption of lower than 8.5W, which satisfy the requirements of small volume and low power consumption.
