Although the application of electronic pedigree is still in the initial stage, it has played a very important role in tracking and tracing functions of entire supply chains. By taking the advantages of modern information technologies, the electronic pedigree system can conveniently track each product throughout each supply chain phrase (e.g., production, storage, transportation). Electronic pedigrees is also very helpful to establish the management rule system of commodity security.The Internet of Things is the combination of a model of information technology and logistics practices. And its rapid progress has provided both the basis for the promotion of electronic pedigree. The Internet of Things, which is established on the basis of radio frequency technology and sensor network technology, can make it very convenient to rapidly integrate the data of moving objects in the physical world as well as the related environment characteristics into the virtual network world. This can support firms to control the entire business process in a more meticulous way. Thus, the electronic pedigree system is of great significance to the commodity tracking processes throughout entire supply chain operations.The main purpose of this paper is to introduce how to design an electronic pedigree system on the basis of digital signatures to solve some key problems in existing electronic pedigrees. Supported by the technology of digital signature, the electronic pedigree system can provide a more creditable tracking service and monitoring operation for the entire supply chain. As a result, this can improve the transparency degree of the market and promote the development of the market. Basing on the practical concept of pedigree, this paper makes detail analysis about the business requirements of electronic pedigrees and use cases of primary electronic pedigree types and operations of business processes and designs electronic pedigree rules to support complex operations of business processes. Besides standard pedigree types proposed by EPCglobal, this paper also designs multiple types of electronic pedigrees to support supply chain activities such as production, storage and transportation. This leads that the technical staff can easily deploy the entire system by configuration. To ensure the security and trustworthy, we leverage the signature chain technology to improve the security of the entire system. Furthermore, this system also designs an event-based integration module to improve the applicability of this system. Finally, this paper design all modules in detail and implements a master-slave system prototype.
