| With the innovation of technology, embedded devices are evolving rapidly. The intelligent devices, considering smart phones as the representatives, bring on fast updating and upgrading of the embedded systems and applications, and promote the development of correlative software and hardware industry. Smart TV is an important part of this technology wave. By combining modern operating system, web and new hardware platform, Smart TV introduces new-style operating, controlling and watching experience. As upper level web application, browser offers runtime environment for the web application on Smart TV, and occupies an important position in the business of Smart TV.However, most of the browsers on Smart TV focus on the basic web browsing business just like PC platform, and take little concern on characteristics of the Smart TV platform.1) The main business of Smart TV lies in play of video and audio, which requires the browser in it to have convenient support on management and processing of video and audio.2) There is a big difference between operating/controlling of Smart TV and PC. The Smart TV lacks of rich input approaches, which requires support of more new-style input methods when dealing with the web applications in browser.3) As member of the intelligent appliance, Smart TV gets connected to more and more other devices under interconnection through the network. As a result, the browser, being the support platform for the web applications, needs to provide the developers with good connection service on communication and cooperation with other devices.Focusing on the current state and trend in development of the Smart TV, we designed a browser platform. It provides corresponding solutions for the characteristics of the Smart TV platform. It supports general browsing and using of web applications by providing basic functions of modern browser. Based on that, it provides multimedia support module, operating and controlling enhancement module, device interconnection module to counter the multimedia-oriented business of Smart TV, lack of input source and interconnecting trend of home appliances correspondingly, which provides a dedicated and convenient runtime environment for web application development on Smart TV platform.The practice proves that the new browser platform provides comprehensive support for video/audio plays, full operating/controlling of browser and plug-in input devices via virtual keyboard and control input interface, convenient device interconnection solutions via intermediate synchronization service. Now, the browser has been deployed in smart TV of Haier and some production video-on-demand products, which shows its practical value. |
