Museum Display With Light Research

Museums should not only serve the collection but also the public. Analogously, double demands from both collection and audience should be considered for exhibit lighting. Museum exhibit lighting is not simply a process for lighting up. Moreover, collection preservation, visitor behaviors and artistic effect should also be stressed.Nevertheless, there are still a lot of insufficiencies in light pollution control, artistic expression and environment protection in Chinese museums. The causes of those issues worth our careful pondering and reflection for solutions.Thus, this research will start from the perspectives of harmlessness, artistry, and environment friendliness in exhibit lighting environment. Methodologies such case study in Nanjing Municipal Museum, on-site survey, personal visiting and questionaries will be used. Theories such as lighting, visitor psychology and behavior will also be included to analyze and evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the lighting in Nanjing Museum and their reasons and provide some suggestions for reference.
