A Comparative Study Of The Disaster Events In The State - Society Perspective

Due to the monsoon climate and complicated geography characteristics, naturaldisasters happen frequently in china. Different ways of seeing disaster and response todisaster lead a conspicuous distinction whether the effect of disaster is controlled orexpended, which inspires us not only to discuss what disaster is,but also discuss howto record disaster and why it is recorded or propagated in this way. In China’s currentmedia system, Global Times and Southern Weekend indisputably have differentnewspaper ideas. This article attempts by using content analysis to analyze thedisaster-related reports of two newspapers over ten years from April20,2003to April20,2013to expose disaster structures and strategies of constructing disaster underdifferent perspectives, by which explore what the different perspectives interests are,expose the different root of disaster-constructed under different perspectives and thecovered disaster’s mechanism. Following is the frame of the paper:First part mainly introduced the origin and meaning of the subject, the methodto this study, the theoretical background of this paper;Chapter2was a literature review to disaster for state and society，disaster-relatedreporting;Chapter3dealt with the methodology of conducting the present research,including the selection of unit of analysis, the methods of data collection and analysis;Chapter4made a diachronic analysis and comparative study by the combinationof quantitative and qualitative to the disaster-related reports of Global Times andSouthern Weekend;Chapter5was a conclusion that national and social perspective of disaster eventshave significant differences on cognitive standard, attention, construction methodsand discourse distribution; the strategy of constructing disaster events under theperspective of the state is to stress the power expansionary; the perspective of thesociety is panoramic description and enlightenment rights consciousness; The keycauses of such differences is around how to build a high unity of social harmonioussociety and safeguard individual freedom; Last was a reflection on conclusion and animage of future research.
