Epon Technology Network Transformation

With the Process of "Optical Fiber Substituting Copper Wire",Fiberhome,Huawei,ZTE three EPON devices have introduced into Beijing Netcom's broadband access networks. By more than 2 years' experience in exploration and demonstration, the scope of EPON products is being expanded gradually.In addition to the classic FTTH application patterns, in the buildings which have the availability of integrated wiring, EPON+LAN ways even have more advantages of rapid deployment and saving investment.The research is based on current EPON infrastructure of Beijing Unicom and the situation of network usage of Beijing. We analyze business requirements and EPON devices being used in Beijing Unicom, focus on the upgrading of broadband network, and supply several plans for using EPON to upgrading system. We also setup the standard for breaking down tasks related to software and hardware, make sure the whole project to carry on successfully.After upgrading to EPON, broadband network access rate raised from 2Mbit/s to 20Mbit/s. And the whole process finished 2 years ahead of the schedule. The upgrading device not only meets the access rate standard which demanded by Beijing government, but also resolved potential problems entirely. By take advantage of network management and resource management systems, we can manage topology of EPON equipments, resources and so on. In mean time, we setup the solid foundation and standard for upgrading infrastructure project in future.
