As a next-generation Internet's network layer protocol, IPv6 will gradually replace the currently used protocol:IPv4, become to the mainstream Internet protocol. IPv4 IPv6 protocol as the basis to do a lot of improvements, making the work an important part of network management-principles and methods of topology discovery has also been many changes. This paper mainly does research on IPv4 and IPv6 coexisting network within AS for topology discovery technologies and a prototype system. This paper proposes the new problems in topology discovery within IPv4 & IPv6 coexistence network environment based on the in-depth study of the relevant technologies of IPv6 protocol and network topology auto-discovery; Then focuses on the topology discovery key technologies within IPv4 & IPv6 coexistence network, such as tunnel discovery and verification, anonymous routers, cross-redundant link, router alias discovery and merging and so on; Designs a topology discovery prototype system within the IPv4 & IPv6 coexisting network, The system can automatically find the majority of AS backbone routers and the connection of the link between these routers, can find the configuration information of the local routers and hosts. Finally, a series of tests performed in the laboratory and AS field, verify the correctness and effectiveness of the prototype system, The results meet the design requirements. This work properly solves the topology auto-discovery problems base on IPv4 & IPv6 coexisting network within AS, is of reference to the integrated network management system studies within IPv4 & IPv6 coexisting network, and provides a good implementation of the topology discovery approach within the coexisting network.
