With the development of society and technology,Media industry nowadays is developing with the interaction and convergence of media. Under the background of media convergence, media organizations are active in coordinating their steps to keep pace with the modern times. Then as a platform to cultivate talents, what should the major of broadcasting and hosting arts do in order to deal with the tendency and challenges. Re-inspection of the broadcasting and hosting arts is in urgent need especially in the western part of China which is lacking in media resources, in which case media talents can be cultivated. Developing with the prosperity of media cause in China, Broadcasting and hosting arts is a major calling for plenty of practice. The talents-cultivation system is under exploration. Media industry is in great change and media convergence is developing, and thus new requirements are put forward. Besides, it also brings more challenges and requirements to the education of broadcasting and hosting arts major.This thesis mainly deals with the tendency of the education of broadcasting and hosting arts major in the western part of China. Via the analysis of the tendency of media convergence, the new demand of hosts and hostesses as well as the current situation of the education in the colleges in western China, combined with the analysis of cultivation schemes of the four universities, namely Shanxi Normal University, Sichuan Normal University, Chongqing University and the Southwest University, the author aims to explore a effective way of dealing with the challenges brought by media convergence. Text-based analysis, qualitative method and interview are applied in this thesis.
