With the rapid development of automation control technology, we have more kinds of advance device and technology to choose in building the modern factory,and we can use a variety of advanced technology and equipment to improve the level of control and the effect of actual. The modern automation technology formed computer as the core , aided by PLC,electrical equipment,smart actuators,fieldbus, intelligent instrument, engineers stood etc, and those tasks grade complex DCS control system,all levels trenchant between tasks .PLC programmable controller has become the first choice control device because of its high reliability, the strong function , flexible, and other characteristics in the control plant site environment now .Based on the design of automatic control system of walking beam reheating furnace of Hangzhou Iron & Steel Plant, this paper introduces the heat treatment process flow of crawler-board and automatic control requirements, the control system and hardware, software system function and composition principle, control mode of implementation and engineering system debugging.Then, the paper introduces the engineering design and selection of equipment for electrical heating furnace temperature control, flow control, oxygen potential control, the atmosphere control, board speed control in the heat treatment process flow of crawler-board .The actual production operation results show that the design of the system and control method can obtain satisfy the product quality required of the surface hardness and deformation of crawler-board , and can guarantee the safe and stable operation.
