This paper discusses the temperature control system of furnace heat treatment which is commonly used in metallurgy and chemistry. The control properties are studied and the heating process is presented.Because of the big inertial and large time-delay, the fuzzy control method is brought forward to control the process. This paper mostly discussed the basic principle and algorithm and also the fuzzy controller's design steps, parameters choosing, control result and robustness. The traditional control method of large time-delay is the Smith compensation. A new model-based compensation algorithm is put forward by discussing the disadvantage of the Smith compensation. According to the different control results of fuzzy control and other traditional control algorithms which work on the same process, their advantages and disadvantages are gained respectively. By combining the superiorities of the fuzzy control and the model-based compensation algorithm, a new control method is realized and here we name it model-based fuzzy compensation and its principle and availability is also studied. Finally, this compensation algorithm is used in large time-delay process control. With MATLAB simulation, the result declares that the model-based fuzzy compensation has the better control accuracy, response speed and robustness. The control performances, rapidity and steady, are better than the common control algorithms. Because of the simple structure and the good availability, the model-based fuzzy compensation has large scope of application.
