Ultra Wide Band(UWB) stepped-frequency through-the-wall radar can locate and track the moving human body target behind the wall in real-time by transmitting the electromagnetic wave through the obstacle and processing the received echo signals reflected from the targets. The radar can be widely used in disaster relief, anti-terrorism and other fields, therefore, it has important application value. As the core part of through-the-wall radar system, a signal processor was designed and implemented with FPGA motherboard and DSP development board in this paper. Moreover, debugged with other parts of radar, the processor had passed the project authentication. This processor mainly completed the following functions: control the transmitter to generat UWB stepped frequency signal, collect the output baseband signal received by the receiver and transmit it to DSP to process in real-time, send the processed human body coordinates to man-machine interface, and receive the control commands and parameters entered by users. The main works completed by this paper were as follows:1. Processor structure design:According to the design requirements, the processor was partitioned to several function modules, and the hardware implementation approaches of each module were determined.2. Hardware circuit design and implementation:The mother-board hardware circuit of processor was designed. The schematic diagram was drawn, and the PCB was produced.3. Mother-board programming:By programming on the FPGA and USB IC, the mother-board accomplished the tasks of transmitter control, baseband signal acquisition and transmission, display-control data transmission, and debugging data upload, etc.4. DSP programming:Through programming, the DSP accomplished the tasks of data loading, real-time signal processing based on the moving target detecting and tracking algorithm, and processed result transmitting, etc.5. System test and joint debugging:The processor was tested and proved to work normally. The processor was jointly debugged with other modules by experiments, moreover, the moving target locating and tracking performance of professor was optimized by parameters adjustment.
