The millimeter-wave radar is widely used in the short-range detection of civilian and military. In the civilian, it is mainly used in the traffic, vehicle collision avoidance and adaptive cruise control systems. In the military, it is mainly used in all kinds of smart fuse, missile seeker, fire controller system and so on. This paper makes some research and practice in the IF(intermediate frequency) signal pre-processing and digital signal processing for the problem of universal radar signal processing.This paper achieves a general IF signal processor of the millimeter-wave radar which can be used in application of short-range detection. The system consists of two parts. One is the conditioning and digital sampling of the radar IF signal, and the other part is the process of IF digital signal in the all digitized manner. This system can measure the distance and velocity of some specific targets accurately, and sent an alarm signal or control signal based on the related Information.The digital signal processor of the system is integrated in a single FPGA to maximize the realization of the system miniaturization, integration, and improved reliability. This paper achieves the design and debugging of the whole system, including the design, implementation and debugging of the signal conditioning circuit, as well as the design of signal processing algorithms and the hardware implementation of signal processing circuit.The results show that the universal millimeter wave radar IF signal processor realized by this paper can achieve the design goals. Its functionality and performance indicators can meet the normal requirements, and the system can meet the application requirements. At last, this paper analyzes the measurement error, which is the foundation to further optimize the performance of this system.
