With the characteristics of wide band, high gain, large dynamic range, low noise and can work in multimode, Traveling wave tube(TWT) is an important type of microwave signal amplifier device, it is widely used in military and aviation industry. With the progress of the times and technical development, the higher performance of the TWT is required.Thermal characteristic is one of many important properties of TWT, the thermal analysis of TWT is mainly aimed at thermal deformation caused by temperature and heat dissipation on some components, the two problems directly affects TWT's working stability and reliability, in the process of research and development, thermal analysis simulation is an important link.TWT electron gun cathode generate electron beam interaction with the microwave circuit in thermal emission way as usual, the cathode'structure changes because of the high temperature which cause the deformation, and influence the cathode's emitting parameters, so the thermal analysis and stress analysis of TWT has an important implications. With the high speed development of modern electronic computer and the improvement of the finite element theory, in order to improve the design ability and shorten the development cycle, CAD technology has become the main researcher tool in TWT's research and manufacture.This paper describes the thermal analysis and deformation analysis of the electron gun cathode using ANSYS package. Using transient analysis calculated the cathode components'temperature changes, get the thermal deformation and stress distribution when the cathode to reach temperature stability. And then load with thermal expansion as the initial conditions in MTSS, analyze the influence of cathode's emitting parameters before and after deformation, these parameters include the cathode current, gunshot and beam waist radius, the result gives the conclusion that all these data are enlargement. Finally, in using ANSYS's UIDL and APDL language compile a simple and convenient thermal analysis GUI, for the person who not familiar to use ANSYS also can make thermal analysis of TWT electron gun cathode. All the work done in this paper has a certain theoretical and engineering value, it provides a thermal analysis simulation method for electron gun cathode component, optimized the analysis procedure in ANSYS,and proved this optimization method is reliable.
