In this paper, we discuss the principles of x-ray cathodes through the research of x-ray cathodes. Analyze the various factors affecting their quantum efficiencies and offer the theoretical accordance for making x-ray cathodes. Following the theoretical analysis , we have made a few CsI/MCP reflection mode cathodes of different structures. Test their characters through imitation methode. Theories and tests illustrate that CsI is a kind of sensitive material to x-ray, If CsI is directly evaporated into the input face of MCP, the quantum efficiency (output character) can be enhanced. Change their structures properly, its output character can be enhanced further. We propose the new structure of CsI layers and use it in signal proximity focusing x-ray intensifiers successfully.
