Ethernet network of telecommunications is developing to a complicate communication network of multiple equipment vendors, thus the requirement of whole end to end network monitoring and control ability becomes a necessary functionality. The remote Ethernet management system which provides network topology, failure management and performance management, is becoming an indispensable operation support system for data telecommunications networks.The user access Ethernet switch is widely used to connect subscribers within 100 meters into internet, and commonly placed in corridor of residential building or simple machine room. To reduce the cost while rolling out a data communication networks, the cost of Ethernet switch should be strictly controlled. Thus leads to the early manufactured Ethernet switch equipments can not provide remote management ability, and results in fast reduction of shipment. The original Ethernet switch can provide remote management by integrating embedded remote management module. The new added hardware includes embedded micro control unit, such as LM3S6911, and its peripheral circuit. Also, the new remote management software was needed to implement according to user's requirement and corresponding protocols.The design and implementation of remote management software was discussed in detail in this thesis, including requirement analysis, key technology analysis, and system design. After design analysis, the implementation of main functions of this software was discussed in detail, such as:μCOS-II multi-task management.μCOS-II provides real-time priority oriented preemptive task schedule algorithm, and multiple tasks should be configured properly. Three tasks were adopt with different priority was spawned to application and real-time response requirement to external events.TCP/IP protocol implementation.μCOS-II provides only micro OS without applications, such as TCP/IP. The TCP/IP software protocol stack was implemented according the RFC standard of TCP/IP, and open resource. The revised TCP/IP stack can provide TCP/IP function of reliable stability as commercial stacks. Telnet protocol implementation. Telnet adopts Client/Server mechanism to implement remote interactive communication between client and server. The implementation of telnet protocol was research in detail.Switch management. Ethernet switch management is the critical function to research for remote management software. The software adopted I/O pins of LM3S6911, connecting to switch chip's SMI interface, and driven as SMI master to control the Ethernet switch connected to. The operation of remote management takes effect immediately, also, the hybrid function was realized to the same I/O pins as I2C bus to control E2P memory chip, that configuration of remote management can be saved for auto configuration of the switch while power up.System management. System management function provides auxiliary function to remote management, such as IP address management, machine ID and default value configuration.Strict test result shows that the implemented remote management software for Ethernet switch fulfils the requirement of end users well. This remote management can be operated easily with online helps, and the reliable stability accords the qualification of telecommunication equipment well.
