As an effective measurement which can guarantee the security of data and information, data backup system provides higher functionality level and more tools for data backup which ensure the advantages of flexibility, safety, stability, ease of use, reliability, scalability and so on comparing with traditional and manual backup methods. Thus in recent years, data backup systems have been widely used in defense, military, education, finance, securities, network, communication and other key data fields , and the Server-Free structure, VDI technology, virtual media technology have become hot issues of research in recent years.This paper was done under the practical research project for Sichuan Institute of Architectural Technology, develop a SQL Server database backup system based on VDI and virtual media technology by taking use of a series of tools such as disk backup LAN-Based Structure, C/S networking, CodeLite IDE development tools, C++ development language and so on.The outline of the paper is as follows:1. The author summarized and illustrated the basic operation principles of the system and made a comparative analysis on the structure types of the system. Furthurly a preliminary investigation of fundamental theory of critical technology which is just like the mainstream backup system technologies and key technologies that can achieve the important technology was conducted.2. Pursuant to the overall goals of the project and the current situation of the College system, demand analysis was done systematically; then overall architecture and modular structure of the system were designed, and finally development tools are compared and selected. After all, the system's operating environment is established.3. Based on the analysis and demonstration of important indicators including system performance and stability, the overall implementation plan for system development has been studied and formulated; and finally the feasibility analysis was deduced on important factors like application, technical, resource and other. 4. Function of kernel modules including both the scheduled tasks, network, backup and restore module for the backup agent and the storage module for the backup server was designed and implemented, and particularly VDI technology for the backup module and virtual media technology for storage modules which were key technologies to achieve the system were further studied and implemented.5. A special test plan against the system program was formulated, and the test and verification on kernel module of system have been finished through data modeling, server environment simulation and network environmental simulation and other means. We achieved expected results at the end of this research project. The system has solved a series of technical problems such as backward way of data backup, data security risks, data storage inconsistent and so on.The project Research and paper targets are also achieved.
